There's a new interview with Jon Foreman from the site, Causecast. They talk to Jon in-depth concerning his involvement in social justice. Here's an excerpt:
Causecast Music Manager Brandon Deroche recently had the opportunity to speak with Jon Foreman of Switchfoot and Fiction Family to discuss Darfur, the idea of peace, and a strange conversation he once overheard in a bookstore.
BD: There seems to be a common underlying belief that we’re in a time in history where a major shift is taking place. Do you feel that we’re in a time of transition?
Jon Foreman: I do believe we’re in a time of transition. I feel in many ways America is not America, yet. The American Dream is one that has potency in its lack of definition. At the same time there is a certain sense of, I don’t want put this in a harsh way or in a negative light, but I think people feel like they are entitled to certain elements of life that I don’t believe to be entitlements. Every breath is a gift and many times in the first world we treat our breath with contempt in the way we treat each other, and the way we treat our own planet reflects that view. I do believe this is a transitional time when we’re looking at that outlook and putting it into balance and finding it, wanting.
BD: What do you feel is music’s role in this?
JF: To me, music plays many roles in society. It can be an alarm clock or it can be a lullaby. There are certainly both sides singing out and there is also a side of music that’s just simply stating truth as it is and not the timeless and immortal truth but the temporal and mortal truth of our time. They’re just singing it the way they see it. I feel like music does have a role to play in waking people up but i don’t think thats the entire role music plays.
BD: So, what do you think is music’s most powerful tool?
JF: I think music is powerful because, in the words of C.S. Lewis, “fiction and fairytale sneak past the watchful dragons of religion.” We all have these sentinels set around our lives that keep anyone else’s viewpoint out. Other people’s viewpoints might not line up with our way of seeing the world, so we keep all these things out.

Some more videos from tour
Before we continue with today's brief video reel-esque update, PLEASE BE SURE to read our friend TJ's first post as a We're Awakening writer. He wrote up a sweet FootColumn about how Atlantic has treated its "pseudo-Christian" artists, and how it relates to one of Atlantic's newest acts, our very own Switchfoot!
READ it. NOW! ;) Great job TJ.
---------
So, now on to our brief update for today. Our friend Bryant alerted us about this incredible quality video of Jon Foreman playing "This Is Home" at an aftershow. Be amazed.
Jon Foreman "This Is Home" at Coffee Crossing in New Albany, IN.
"The Sound" from House of Blues in Dallas, Texas on August 16th.
^Check out that intro. This song is really growing into an incredible live number.
"Mess of Me" at the Masquerade in Atlanta, Georgia, August 21st.
Now, here are a couple of videos of Jon Foreman climbing the balcony of Rams Head in Baltimore for the August 23rd show. The man is still intense as ever!
Part 1
Part 2
See more videos from Epiphanyofhope, who has videos from the aftershow as well

"Mess of Me" radio date pushed back once again?
Before we get to today's updates, I'd like to make a brief shout-out to our new staff writer, TJ, who will be helping us out with updates and so forth. I'll give him a chance to introduce himself personally when he makes his debut on the blog, but he sure didn't hesitate before making a mark.
TJ alerted us that FMQB has reported that "Mess of Me's" long-anticipated radio debut has been delayed once more, this time to September 28-29, 2009.
NOTE: This likely does not affect the fact that we will be getting a copy of the single as an instant download with pre-orders. Stay tuned for more details.
---------
According to LOBH, Jon Foreman says that "Fake Your Own Death" may make it onto "Vice Verses," the album after "Hello Hurricane." That would be something. I'm beginning to think "Vice Verses" is going to be a more introspective record than "Hello Hurricane." But judging that by two song possibilities is stretching things a bit, I do admit.
---------
The Daily Foot has been updated with stories from tour. The Videos we've all already seen, but head on over there anyways, to read up on what's been going on on the Blue October Crazy Making tour.
Interesting Note from the Los Angeles Daily Foot entry:
the day started out with jon and tim cruising up the freeways to a producer's house and working just a touch more on a couple versions of the new songs.
Remember when Jon Foreman tweeted that he was working on the pre-chorus of "Mess of Me?" Well, yes. It's confirmed that they are re-touching a couple of their songs, as we previously speculated.
Should be exciting.
---------
And lastly, Indievision Music has a new mini-review of "Hello Hurricane":
HELLO SWITCHFOOT
Anthemic rock which you might say resembles U2, Muse, or even The Fray in the somber melody department. Hopeful and inspiring lyrical output to rival any of today’s top “Christian” bands. I haven’t really listened to this band much since “The Beautiful Letdown” but I was pleasantly surprised with this new album so much so that I have decided to write this news post about them. What am I talking about? Well I am discussing the new album “Hello Hurricane” by one of today’s leading rock acts out of San Diego, CA……Switchfoot. If you’re looking for that special something to lighten the mood around the holidays this fall, look no further than Switchfoot’s newest release “Hello Hurricane”. Powerful, moving, and utterly fantastic. I may or may not officially review this, I haven’t decided yet. I still have a bit of writer’s block so I may hand this off to a reviewer who really enjoys the upbeat mood of Switchfoot. Let me tell you, some of these songs kick butt in a anthemic and aggressive manner. November 10th couldn’t come soon enough and I know all of you faithful readers are in for a real treat when “Hello Hurricane” drops. Don’t forget that date….November 10th!! Don’t expect a return to the past for this is a band dead set on progression and leading the charge towards a new future. You can find influences from all their albums but this is an entirely new set of tunes created to reach listener at their core. Get ready for the new (and improved) sound of Switchfoot. November 10th!!!!!!! Don’t forget.

Crazy Making Tour Day 1 Recap
Well, the Crazy Making Tour has kicked off, in Denver, CO last night. According to LOBH, the setlist was:
The Sound
Oh! Gravity
Gone/Crazy in Love
On Fire
Dirty Second Hands
Dare You to Move
Mess of Me
Meant to Live
That is surprisingly small for a supposedly co-headlining set. Eight songs. I'd have to say though that is the smallest headlining set the guys have played in recent memory. I could be wrong. The song selection was great though.
I think "The Sound" is going to end up being a GREAT opening song, and could very well replace "Stars" and "Oh! Gravity." as show-openers for years to come.
Of all the songs, they made great choices on which songs to play. These are all arguably Switchfoot's best live numbers; so good to see "Dirty Second Hands" stayed on the setlist.
Here's the new Daily Foot video recapping the evening:

Here are some videos:
First, its the new daily foot video for the show last Saturday in Iowa.

Switchfoot/Blue October Tour to be called "Crazy Making Tour"
Here's the tour teaser poster, as posted on Blue October's Myspace page. Looks like Switchfoot will be co-headlining with Blue October, with the bands Ours and Longwave opening up.
So the tour dates will be announced Thursday, May 28th. That's tomorrow. We'll keep you posted as soon as we get more information!
I think I've just gotten 10 times more excited for this tour. I don't know why, but I just am. Should be amazing, especially now that we see that Switchfoot will be at least co-headliners. Regardless of your views on Blue October's music, you can't deny this will give Switchfoot a huge promotional push as they ready their new album this September.
And it is quite conceivable that by the time this tour kicks off, we might be talking about a brand new Switchfoot single. If that's the case, imagine the kind of boost it would get from a pretty high-profile co-headlining tour like this. Thoughts?
