"We Are One Tonight" BCS music video footage coming; No Live album; "Red Eyes" for Haiti
For up to date (most of the time) news and original opinions before they hit the update, follow us on Twitter!
-----
You all have seen the clip of "We Are One Tonight" that was featured in the BCS National Championship Game. Well, some good news is on the way. We have received word that the full clip should be available some time next week! Be on the look out for that.
Also, it's good to note that "We Are One Tonight" continued to do well on the iTunes front, peaking at No. 71 on iTunes Pop and even reaching the Top Songs Overall chart, coming in at No. 200.
SWEET.
-----
On another note, we've also gotten confirmation that there are currently no plans on releasing a live album of any sort. Switchfoot has dived fully into the recording sessions for "Vice Verses" and are pursuing that summer release they've talked about.
-----
Also, a year after the Haiti disaster, Jon Foreman is still doing his part to raise awareness and help for the earthquake-stricken country. He has donated "Red Eyes" to the re-launched "Download To Donate for Haiti" initiative.
Basically, a growing database of free music from fairly big-name artists will be made available to those who donate to the organization. For more details, head over to their website or check out the new splash on switchfoot.com
Below is a video of Jon explaining why Haiti still needs to be on our minds.
^This Haiti thing holds a particularly special place in my heart. I am planning to head over there in the spring with some fellow journalism students to document the country and what it looks like a year after the disaster – to tell the unheard stories of people we may never hear from otherwise. If you can, please do your part. Thanks!

In continuing what has been a wave of Switchfoot TV craziness, "Dare You to Move" was featured prominently in last night's episode of "The Biggest Loser."

New-look Switchfoot message boards; "She Says" will be on Vice Verses
For up to date (most of the time) news and original opinions before they hit the update, follow us on Twitter!
-----
First of all, for those of you who are regulars of the Official Switchfoot Message Boards, take a glance at the new look!
Gotta love the "Hurricane" look! If you haven't joined this illustrious community, be sure to head over and sign up to talk about everything Switchfoot!
-----
Also from these boards, our friend gravyty has this to say about the new song, "She Says (The Black-Eyed Blues)":
I was there at the aftershow when Jon played this and he said then that it would be on Vice Verses. Furthermore he had this binder labeled "Vice Verses" with a picture of a zebra on it (no clue why) and he was using it as a cheat sheet when he sang She Says.
So it's official. "She Says" will be on "Vice Verses." Interesting to note the direction we're seeing this album taking so far, with "Against the Voices," "She Says," and of course, "Vice Verses" being all mid-tempo, slower, contemplative types of songs. There is, of course, "Dark Horses" which has a more rock direction. We shall have to see.

Head over to vote now!
Be sure to also head over to Footsoldiers HQ for more on how to help out Switchfoot's singles on the radio! "The Sound" is starting to pick up again and is poised to crack into the Top 20 of Alternative this week!

RADIO CAMPAIGN
'The Sound' is about to enter the top 30 on the Alternative Rock Chart. Thanks for all your work in requesting the song...let's get it to top 10!
Here's what Jon had to say about the song: "The Sound (John Perkin's Blues) is a very important song for us as a band. I see so much hatred and fear around me, I see so many people living out their pain. I hear it on the radio. I see it in the headlines. John Perkin's story needs to be heard. This song was inspired by a man who sang a louder song than hatred. In a world where we are defined by our differences, Mr. Perkin's life of service and compassion is a tangible demonstration of what it means to live a life of love. Love is the loudest song we could sing. Louder than racism. Louder than fear. Louder than hatred. John Perkin's said it right, love is the final fight. We're excited to hear this song on the radio, louder than pain." Let's do this!

New Youtube Channel Design; Daily Vault calls "Hello Hurricane" Album of the Year
Check out the new look of Switchfoot's new Youtube channel!
Be sure to head on over and SUBSCRIBE if you haven't. We should be seeing the official "Mess of Me" video later today! So be on the lookout, and we'll keep you updated.
-----
The Daily Vault posted their review of "Hello Hurricane," and I must say, this is the first absolutely glowing review we've seen – they tabbed "Hello Hurricane" as the Album of the Year! A sign of good things to come? I think so.
I don’t know about you, but I get the feeling the world could use a little inspiration right now. It’s no accident that the word on everyone’s lips these days is “change” -- the undercurrent being, “we aren’t happy with the way things are.”
For the thinking artist, times like these are rich with challenge. Superficiality won’t cut it, and you can’t inspire an audience as jaded as today’s without first acknowledging the cold hard reality they are knee-deep in already. So how do you give them both the truth, and hope?
You do it by making an album as inspirational, aspirational, and all-out magnificent as Hello Hurricane, which I’m ready to call, right here on the second day of November, the album of the year.
Much more than Switchfoot’s rather disjointed, experimental 2006 disc Oh! Gravity., Hello Hurricane feels like the true successor to 2005’s masterful Nothing Is Sound. The bold, expansive, Zeppelin- and U2-influenced alt-rock of this San Diego quintet -- Jon Foreman (vocals/guitar), Tim Foreman (bass), Chad Butler (drums), Jerome Fontamillas (keys/guitar) and Drew Shirley (guitar) -- is as propulsive and compelling as ever, while their examinations of loneliness and resilience and discovering hope amidst despair have only grown more sophisticated and involving.
The disc opens with throbbing bass over skittering, martial-cadenced drums, joined by rippling, echoing guitar and finally keening vocals streaming in over the top -- which is to say, “Needle And Haystack Life” owes a lot to Joshua Tree-era U2, but of course that’s nothing but a compliment if you can pull it off, and they do, in spades.
Initial single “Mess Of Me” ups the emotional ante further with a burning tempo and slashing riffs as Jon Foreman wails over the top. The music is driving, furious, cathartic, and matched perfectly to Foreman’s lyric about addiction and degradation and ultimately, channeling desperation into a drive for redemption (“I want to live the rest of my life alive”).

Hear the radio edit of "Always" on AOL Radio!; new Switchfoot Youtube Channel
We are finally starting to hear info from the EMI CMG side of things for "Hello Hurricane!" Check out this blog from AOL radio about "Always" and then, head over to listen to it!
Switchfoot's 'Always,' is one of the two lead singles (the other 'Mess of Me') off their seventh studio album 'Hello Hurricane,' set to release Nov. 10. The song was written by lead vocalist Jon Foreman -- record producers Rob Cavallo (Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Goo Goo Dolls) and Mike Elizondo (Fiona Apple, Alanis Morissette) also collaborated on this single. A piano-led tune, the breathtaking song starts out with Jon on piano with Tim Foreman on bass guitar, followed by Chad Butler's heavy drums in the second verse. Be sure to listen to their new single -- with 'Dare You to Move' similarities -- on AOL Radio's Top Christian station.
SWEET, right? So head over here to listen to the Christian station. You have to scroll through it awhile, but you'll eventually find it. If you don't, and reach your limit, you can always clear your cookies and keep going!
I scrolled through a few songs and found it. Let me tell you, it is different from the album version. It has more epic sweep, an actual instrumental interlude, and a shorter oo's bridge. I LOVE it, and shored up all the things the album version lacked. Be sure to listen up to it!
UPDATE (1:46 AM PAST): I got a recording of it! It sounds really good... should I share? ;)

Switchfoot collect donations during the "Hello Hurricane" tour; launching The World You Want; "The Sound" to feature on Blackberry campaign; and more
Official press release from Marketwire and JFH (bold added)
Also, thanks LOBH for the tip!
NEWS SOURCE: Hoganson Media and Marketwire
October 26, 2009
SWITCHFOOT will kick off its fall headlining tour in San Diego on November 8 for 94.9’s Anniversary Bash. The band will then appear on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” performing on the outside stage on November 12th.
The tour will feature SWITCHFOOT playing Hello Hurricane in its entirety, followed by fan favorites from its previous records. The band will be collecting donations for local food banks along the tour route, so fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable items to the concerts. (See below for tour itinerary and a list of food banks that will receive donations.)
SWITCHFOOT is also launching a new website, http://www.theworldyouwant.com, which will spotlight goodness, beauty, and truth in everyday life. Fans are invited to contribute stories about people they know who are making this world a better place. The band will read some of these contributions from stage during the tour.
Recorded with producer/bassist Mike Elizondo (Rilo Kiley, Eminem, and Pink), Hello Hurricane is the group’s seventh full-length album and its first on Atlantic Records. Lead single “Mess of Me” is getting airplay at Modern and Active Rock radio stations and is climbing the Modern Rock radio chart. “The Sound,” another track from the album, has been tapped by Verizon Wireless for its national ad campaign for the BlackBerry® Storm™ 2.
Fans who pre-order Hello Hurricane will immediately receive a free download of “Mess of Me” and four videos. They have five pre-order options to choose from: the standard CD edition; deluxe CD/DVD edition with approximately 60 minutes of behind-the-scenes footage and studio performances; vinyl with CD; the Collector’s edition (Hello Hurricane CD, deluxe DVD, an additional CD with studio outtakes and more, limited edition poster and 84-page hardcover book); and the digital download edition. The deluxe CD/DVD and Collector’s edition are also available at Christian retailers nationwide. For additional information or to pre-order, visit ITunes or the band’s web site http://www.switchfoot.com. Fans can also enter to win a “flyaway” contest through the WAY-FM radio network to meet and surf with the band in San Diego. For more details, visit www.morningswithbrant.com.
At the end of October, SWITCHFOOT – comprised of Jon Foreman (vocals/guitar), Tim Foreman (bass), Chad Butler (drums), Jerome Fontamillas (keys/guitar) and Drew Shirley (guitar) – will take the stage for Yahoo! Music’s new live concert program, “Maximum Performance Guitar Hero 5.” Jon and Chad will be featured in an upcoming episode of “Road Trip Nation” airing on PBS stations in November. Check local listings or watch the episode at http://www.roadtripnation.com/watch/ anytime after its November 5th debut on KLCS TV in Los Angeles and Orange County. MySpace will premiere Hello Hurricane the week before its release and the band will be interviewed on “The MySpace Music Feed” on Monday, November 9th.
SWITCHFOOT is the subject of an upcoming Rolling Stone “In the Studio” feature and will be on the cover of Relevant Magazine’s November/ December issue. Jon has also penned two articles recently: his piece on charity in your own backyard will be in the November issue of Alternative Press and he’s written on the nature of heroism for The Huffington Post.
He also recently participated in filming an innovative online game called “The Climate Challenge,” for Oxfam (http://www.oxfamamerica.org/music). “When you play the game, you will feel the urgency. We have to start acting now on climate change. There is literally no time to waste,” says Foreman. The game will launch in late October at http://www.theclimatechallenge.org.
Hello Hurricane, SWITCHFOOT’s first studio album since 2006’s Oh! Gravity, which debuted at No. 18 on The Billboard 200, acknowledges life’s storms while managing to find an element of hope in them. The band tracked more than 80 songs at its self-built home studio before narrowing it down to the 12 that appear on the new album. (Fans can check out the four-minute trailer, “The Making of Hello Hurricane,” at http://www.switchfoot.com.)

Alternative Press reviews "Hello Hurricane" and publishes a Jon Foreman op-ed article!; new tour dates; hi-q pictures
Alternative Press Magazine is making their December 2009 issue rather Switchfoot-heavy. Thanks to the official Switchfoot myspace blog and Facebook, here are caps of the review of "Hello Hurricane" and a Jon Foreman op-ed article:
^A 3.5/5 review is pretty solid.
-------
To those who were disappointed when the initial "Hello Hurricane" tour dates were made available, there is really great news for you. Switchfoot have added a string of dates in December!
12.03.09 Charlotte, NC
Amos' Southend
12.05.09 Richmond, VA
WDYL Snowball @ The National
12.07.09 Baltimore, MD
Rams Head Live
12.08.09 New York, NY
The Fillmore Irving Plaza
12.09.09 Boston, MA
Paradise Rock Club
^Yeah! Anyone stoked because the "Hello Hurricane" tour is finally making a stop at a venue near you?
-------
Speaking of tour, the band has been hard at work rehearsing to play their entire new album through. Here are tweets and corresponding pictures from those times.
- Rehearsals for the upcoming tour went well today! got to surf a few fun ones this morning with tim beforehand... jon
- Rehearsing hard down here... So hard that romey's starting to break things- yikes! -Jon http://yfrog.com/bawsywj
- Rehearsals. So fun to play these new tunes!! -tf http://yfrog.com/5n2y1j
^Drew Shirley's got a mic. Wait, Drew's got a mic?? WHAT?? That's awesome.
-------
Australian friends! "Hello Hurricane" is releasing November 6, in your country according to ezydvd.com. Enjoy the early release date friends!
-------
I just got an email from management informing us that the music video for "Mess of Me" is rolling out soon!
-------
Here's a review of "Nothing Is Sound," from Indievisionmusic.com, the fifth in their series of Switchfoot album reviews before the release of "Hello Hurricane."
Overall: Switchfoot have reinforced my thinking that they are one of the best bands of the decade and aren’t content with staying put musically. I can count on them to put out a fresh product with new tweaks to their sound, always pushing it to another level. There’s that saying, ‘Don’t always judge a book by it’s cover’, which rings true with music sometimes but instead it’s, ‘Don’t judge an album by your initial impressions’. When music has depth, it takes awhile to realize it. Once I did I found that Nothing Is Sound is not only one of their best albums, but one of the best this decade. Lay aside what you think you know about this band and listen with an open mind. This isn’t an album full of singles so much as a complete work of art that can’t be cut up into bits and pieces. It needs to be experienced as a whole.
-------
Whoo! This is a long update, huh? Here's a video previewing an interview with Jon Foreman, as well as an acoustic performance of "Mess of Me" on the beach!
Project Rhythm Seed UNDERGROUND - Jon Foreman (Teaser)
-------
I'm such a sucker for hi-quality pictures and photos, so when LOBH posted these shots up, I was drooling... (proverbially speaking of course).

-------
Charts News
"Mess of Me" held steady today at No. 39 on the Alternative charts.
-------
VOTING
Excercise those fingers, and keep voting for Switchfoot! We need to keep this ball rolling.
- Go vote for "Mess of Me" on RadioU's Top Ten Most Wanted here. It is currently at 47.2%, significantly higher than yesterday. Great work! But we can't let that momentum slide. Make sure you vote every day.
- KROQ (Los Angeles) is one of the most influential rock stations in the country. When they add a song, several other stations across the country take notice and follow suit. We need to get "Mess of Me" on there, in order to get this single off the ground. Go HERE to request it! Keep it up friends! Don't slow down, WE NEED THIS. I REPEAT. WE NEED THIS.
-

Go here to see a list of stations already playing "Mess of Me" and phone numbers to call in and request the song with!
We'll post more voting opportunities as they come up, so keep checking back every day.

"Hello Hurricane" Vinyl prints; Kris Allen writing with Jon Foreman and Mike Elizondo
Andy Barron, the esteemed art director for "Hello Hurricane" and photographer/video person etc. for Switchfoot, posted a new blog and a new picture. Dig it!
hey guys. it is crunch week over here in andy barron headquarters (aka, my apartment) for all of the hello hurricane album art for switchfoot. the light at the end of the tunnel is close. can’t wait for you guys all to see it. i think it turned out pretty stinkin great.
i’m very excited that we got to make a vinyl version of the record. me being the vinyl guy that i am, this is near and dear to my heart, so rather than use my original idea for vinyl labels, i scrapped it and went with an old school atlantic look, but with a few embellishments. they didn’t have any old templates or anything, so i just made this from scratch, and i think it turned out pretty great. the record comes out nov 10. get one. love, andy.
And, here it is:

^Be sure to check out andybarron.com for more amazing artwork from this dude. Not only does he do amazing work with Switchfoot, but he's shot the Jonas Brothers, Paramore, Paper Route, Relient K, Mute Math, and more.
------
In other news, Kris Allen, the latest American Idol winner, tweeted yesterday that he was writing some new music with none other than Jon Foreman and Mike Elizondo. Oh, American Idol and it's hook-ups....
- Just hung with @jonathanforeman and mike Elizondo writing some sweet muzac. Both these guys are crazy talented.
^That is pretty cool though. We now know at least one of the songs will be somewhat interesting....
Either way, follow him at http://twitter.com/KrisAllen4Real.
------
And, for those of you who couldn't watch the 4-minute long "Hello Hurricane" Teaser Trailer, Brad from over on the official message boards recorded it and posted on Youtube (the universal language of video streaming)
^Thanks so much Brad. I have never seen Jon Foreman that close to tears. I'm not quite sure how to feel... so amazing.

"Mess of Me" purchasable single? "Always" single? Switchfoot, Hello Hurricane, Switchfoot, Hello Hurricane Tour, Switchfoot, Hello Hurricane!
^There was my lame attempt at a clever title for the day… blechh.
Anyways… hello! We've got lots of news for you today! Let's tackle these, one by one, shall we?
UPDATE (11:09 AM PST):
We just heard back from EMI CMG, and "Always" is still going to Christian CHR. Here's what they had to say:
"Sure is! The band is actually working on a new version of the song…SO excited! look for it in a couple of weeks."
^Oh sweet! A new version... I wonder if this is a radio edit or a straight-up album version edit.
--------
We have found "Mess of Me" single artwork!

^Isn't it beautiful? I have to thank our awesome writer, Bleah, for alerting me about this. THANKS! :)

EMI CMG, the other half of the promotional powerhouse team that will unleash "Hello Hurricane" upon the world, posted a blog about "Mess of Me," which is going up for Christian Rock adds tomorrow. They also have a link to a new "Making of Hello Hurricane" DVd promo. Now, whether or not it works is yet to remain seen. I've tried countless times on my machine, and it has not worked. Next, to commemorate the 7 weeks remaining until "Hello Hurricane" comes out, IndieVisionMusic is writing reviews of all seven studio albums by Switchfoot. Here's a clip from their "Legend of Chin" review:
Overall: Switchfoot’s debut set the stage for an impressive career and it’s a must-own for any fan of the band. Even those who are only familiar with their later work would do well to see where it all began. There’s a raw energy of their youth here and sometimes it is just fun to see where a band began. Whenever I spin The Legend of Chin I immediately get in an upbeat mood and listen intently for the great bass grooves and the lyrical play on words. It’s an entertaining listen and that’s how music should be.
