Switchfoot can now be called official Twitter fanatics; get a shoutout from Jimmy Eat World

Switchfoot hasn't been busy only on mixing, overdubbing, and finalizing their new album. They've also been busy getting familiar with Twitter and their Twitter followers. Here's a rundown of what they did in what was a rather busy day of tweeting and rockin' the Supro guitar.

March 31st:

- Just added myself to the http://wefollow.com twitter directory under: #Music #Web #Blogger

- Amigos, thanks for welcoming us to the twitter family, we're following you now too (or will be by the end of the day... still working on it)

- Recording here in LA with Mike Elizondo... Jon + old Supro guitar = awesome! http://twitpic.com/2niao

Jimmy Eat World is also on Twitter, and they posted a great shout-out to their @switchfoot buddies on their own feed:

- jimmyeatworld check out some friends of ours on twitter: @switchfoot - good dudes, good rock.

Switchfoot replied soon after with a <3ing response (haha):

- @jimmyeatworld thanks for the shout zach. The foot <3 jimmy eat world. Wow, I've never made an e-heart before, not sure how I feel about it

<3 LOL.

Anyways, carrying on, the Switchfoot guys were thinking of streaming a song on their twitter and took requests. Here's what went down:

- thinking of streaming a song here, maybe any suggestions?

- oh yeah, sorry. an old song. we're still finishing the new ones, heh.

- the requests were pretty varied, but we got 3 in a row for shadow. this goes out to @GoatsOnBoats, who was first: ♫ http://twt.fm/21244

--------------

So it looks like the guys are really enjoying this whole Twitter thing. Hopefully this will keep going, because this increased connection with the fans is definitely going to be beneficial as the months draw nearer to a brand new Switchfoot album release.

For now, make sure you get singed up and follow them, because the more the merrier, as people like to say.

PEACE!

Of pollo asada's and chiropractor's flyers... a day in the life of Switchfoot

Yupp! It seemed that random. Twitter updates!:

March 27, 2009:

- Devouring this pollo asada plate like there's no tomorrow, or at least like I skipped lunch and dinner. Feeling so satisfied now, wow. -tim

- Chad is singing some sweet low vocals, I thought barry white had walked into the studio.

March 28, 2009

I kinda tweaked my back trying to grab a flyer off my windshield without leaving the driver's seat... the flyer was for a chiropractor, ha.

Um... oops? haha.

------------------

Speaking of twitter/status updates and the like, Jon Foreman updated his Facebook status saying:

Next month technically starts in 4 days. Exciting times; I believe we can start anticipating a new single by May, or possibly late April! Stay tuned.

"Jon sang some very special vocals..."

Switchfoot updated their twitter this morning at 3:15 AM Pacific time. Holy...

March 27, 2009: Wow, 3:15 am. Sometimes it's just so hard to quit. I'm pretty beat. Jon sang some very special vocals tonight, really pushing himself. Nite!

Ah! The inspiration that we hear about so often that comes in the wee hours of the morning... EPIC!

Switchfoot finishing up a song called "Red Eyes"

Twitter:

March 26, 2009: Finishing a song called red eyes, an appropriate song title for late night recording. -tim http://twitpic.com/2gehj

I think some may recognize the name of the song. well, that's probably because if you've paused the Switchfoot Podcast 6 at the right moment, you would've seen this:

...from the Oh! Gravity. song selection session. "Red Eyes" was considered for that album, but it looks like it's finally getting its chance here. I'm sure that if it was able to stay around since the Oh! Gravity. sessions, it'll be a great track.

Oh, and here you can watch Podcast 6 again, for old times' sake.

"Holding a cdr in my hand..."

One of the Switchfoot members twittered again:

March 20: Powering down for the weekend, holding a cdr in my hand that is sounding really exciting right now. Gonna be fun to play these tunes live!

Wow, the tunes are already cdr-ready. I know I suppose they could still be rough mixes, but these songs are apparently cohesive enough to the point where the band is starting to think of playing them live! So ready!

Switchfoot plays Vegas and twitters about it..

Hellooo las vegas. Backstage and ready for rock. Good to be out of the studio, but eager to dive back in Mon. -tf http://twitpic.com/23wjj

My Vegas Scene was on it:

Their number one song, “Meant to Live” is what they opened up their performance with to kick off the night and followed with hits for the next thirty minutes, ending with “Dare You to Move”.

After their performance, the members of Switchfoot went to their VIP loft where they had Belvedere cocktails and enjoyed the Vegas nightlife scene at LAX Nightclub Las Vegas.

Looked like a great show!

LOBH/FOTF reports the Switchfoot albums "THIS CLOSE" to being done!

From Land of Broken Hearts:

The new Switchfoot album is ALMOST DONE! The guys posted a new video on Friends of the Foot, letting everyone know the album was *this close* to being finished. They've just got some "overdubs and a little bit of tracking" left. According to Tim, "it's coming in REAL hot."

And, speaking of those overdubs, the Switchfoot guys twittered about some gang vocals they recorded yesterday with local San Diegan surfing legend Rob Machado.

March 11: Gang vocals with some help from rob machado, who sounds almost as good as he surfs. Record is feeling really great... http://twitpic.com ...

(New Switchfoot Album timeline updated!)

--------------------

This is great news; I'm pretty sure it's a safe bet to expect this album to be done by the end of this month. This will give them a month to set up a long-term marketing plan, and possibly put out a brand new single in mid-April or May.

Then again, this is traditionally what would've happened on a major label, but considering that Switchfoot is independent now, this whole process might actually be accelerated. It will depend on what ATO has in store. In all honesty, I hope they give Switchfoot a harder push than they did with Fiction Family. I've been toying with the idea of writing up a piece about how incredibly important the success of this album could be for the guys' future. We'll see how that turns out...

What do you all think??

Tuesday, March 10, 2009

they fought the law...

...and the law won.

March 1: Nothing like getting pulled over at 1:15 am on the way home from the studio... -tf http://twitpic.com/1z2zzabout

Yupp! So thanks to the new Twitter feed, we know that Jon and Tim Foreman have been flying with the Blue Angels and that Jon is rockin' a Telecaster. Pics and feed stories below:

March 4: Oh, by the way, jon and I are about to ride in f-18 fighter jets with the blue angels. WHAT??!! http://twitpic.com/1ub4x

March 5: My "before" picture... not nearly as green as the "after" shot. Jon was a champ, I blacked out and puked! -tf http://twitpic.com/1v8ml

March 6: Back at it. Done with jets for a while, I think we're better at playing guitars. Clarity tour in town tonight! -tf http://twitpic.com/1vvjj

Switchfoot "rounding 3rd base" and nearing home plate (for the new album)!

Chad Butler posted a blog for the Friends of the Foot. It is here for all of us non-fotfers, courtesy of Land of Broken Hearts.

Stu stu studio! Here's a look at the day from the lens of a drummer. We are home recording with our new friend (and ace engineer) Ryan Peterson. Some friends stopped by to listen last night and asked how far along in the recording process we are... it felt good to say we are rounding 3rd base and can see homeplate coming into view. When the dust settles I hope you guys enjoy these songs as much as we are enjoying the process. Ok, gotta go play some beats...
-Chad

--------------------

Another engineer to add to the mix. He's also a producer and drummer, and you can check out/find out more about him on his myspace

He's done mixing work for the Highschool Musical 2 soundtrack, and has played drums on several Hanson tracks.

So we are nearing the home stretch, the album is almost done. The long-awaited seventh studio album by Switchfoot is on the horizon, or almost. Need to get caught up on how this album got made? Check out our comprehensive time line, which has been updated with this new information!

somewhat oldish Switchfoot FUSE interview

It was from last year, for Creation 08, but FUSE just now posted it so here it is. That's it for our abbreviated Sunday update.
